Iconic Ipswich bus acquired by QOCS

QOCS is excited to announce that it has acquired a 1959 Watt Bros bodied Bedford SB3 that operated for over 30 years for the McDonald family’s Pioneer Bus Service at Ipswich.

For the past 5 years the vehicle has been owned by Neville Purtill of The Depot in Deniliquin, New South Wales. Neville acquired it from the McDonald family who has owned the bus for the vast majority of its life.

Just over a year ago, the club approached Neville to formally acquire the vehicle for permanent display at Queensland’s first bus museum. Over the ensuing months, a plan was formulated to relocate the bus over 1,400km back to Brisbane.

We thank Neville Purtill and John Haig of The Depot for their help and support in making this acquisition happen, along with the following individuals and companies for financially sponsoring the acquisition and relocation back to where it belongs:

  • Richie Beaumont
  • Frank Oliveri of Southern Cross Transit
  • Michael Baulch of Emerald Coaches
  • Del Cole of Mt Gravatt Bus Service
  • Pete White of Bus Stop Sales
  • Bob Jackson
  • Gerard O’Dempsey
  • Nick Wilson
